WavPlayer by Bytescribe(www.bytescribe.com)
WavPlayer by Bytescribe Development Company is a program
that allows the user to listen to standard Windows sound
files while controlling them with a foot pedal. A
transcriptionist can type dictated reports without taking
her hands off of the keyboard. The foot pedal controls the
play, pause, rewind and fast forward functions. The software
can run in a minimized state so that the transcriptionist
is able to type into a word processor on the same computer.
The WavPlayer software also offers speed and adjustable
backspace controls.
The foot pedal that comes with the WavPlayer software plugs
directly into any serial (COM) port of any PC computer.
The USB Version of WavPlayer is compatible with Windows
98/ME/2000/XP. The Serial Port Version of WavPlayer is compatible
with Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP.
The Orator Pro Digital Dictation System is able to export
files into wav or TrueSpeech (compressed wav) format. These
files can then be uploaded to an Internet site for download
by transcriptionists. The transcriptionists may then use
the WavPlayer to control these files.
Features
- WavPlayer can automatically be configured to be the
default player for any of the following sound formats:
*.wav, *.dss, *.mp3 and *.vox. Simply select the
Tools | Make Default Player menu option from the
WavPlayer menu.
- WavPlayer will work with any standard word processor
running in Windows. A transcriptionist can control
the play, pause, rewind and fast forward functions with
a foot pedal while typing in any standard word processor.
- Files created by the Voice It recorder (.sri files) must first
be converted to .wav file format before they can be played with
the WavPlayer. A free utility exists from the manufacturer
of Voice It that will convert .sri files to .wav files.
This utility can be downloaded from the following site:
https://www.vxicorp.com/support/voiceit_software.asp#128
You will simply need to convert the files first, and then use
the Bytescribe WavPlayer to transcribe them. Here is what is stated
on the manufacturer's web site: "The VTR compressed
voiced files (.sri files) are in a proprietary compressed format
and cannot be accessed and played with other software programs.
However, non-recorder owners who receive .sri files from a recorder
owner can download a free
Voice It Player which will decompress and play .sri files."
- The WavPlayer can play Sony .msv and .dvf files but
a free "Plug-in" is required. The plug-in
can be downloaded from Sony's web site or by clicking
here.
You do not need the plug-in if you already have Sony MemoryStick
Voice Editor software installed on your computer.
- Dictaphone and DVI systems create .wav files which require a
special CODEC before they can be played by WavPlayer. Click
on the following links to download Dictaphone
or DVI
(Rhetorex) codecs. Dictaphone .wav files can also be
played by renaming the .wav extension to .vox and selecting the
"8KHz ADPCM" setting in WavPlayer.
- USB (Universal Serial Bus) ports are available on most
newer computers and generally have fewer compatibility
problems than serial ports. USB ports are supported
on Windows 98/ME/2000/XP. They are not supported
on Windows 95/NT. Serial Ports use an older
technology, but are generally still available on most
computers. Serial Ports are supported on Windows
95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP.
System Requirements
For the serial port version of WavPlayer, you can be running Windows
95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP and have an available serial port on your computer.
For the USB port version of WavPlayer, you can be running 98/ME/2000/XP
and have an available USB port on your computer. Minimum hardware
requirements are 32 MB RAM, 133 MHz processor and 10 MB disk space.
